Spring is here!

This past week was South by Southwest, a music and movie festival, a lot of people from all over come into town and go see screenings and music shows. There is a free show lawn and we went to see Erykah Badu with the girls. She only played two long songs because she was late getting into town. She put the reason on her Twitter. A woman in Dallas had been coming onto her property for some time and she wouldn't leave so she had to file a police report. The songs she sang were great! We all had fun. Tonight we had a grill night with some church folks and met some more new people.

This Tuesday I start my sewing class!! I am really excited and I am trying to sell some stuff on craigslist to raise money for a sewing machine. Wish me luck. I get to borrow one for the class. However, Hadley will not be able to come so, we are going to let her cry it out or something. I will feed her before we leave and she should be fine. Pray for Andrew though. ;)

Miss Everyone!!

Happy Birthday Andrew!!

This weekend we celebrated Andrew's birthday! My family came down to surprise him on Saturday and brought him Sprinkles Cupcakes! We took them to South Congress(SoCo) and looked at the vintage shops and then we went to Savers its a thrift store here. It was lots of fun to see my family!

Today(Sunday) we went to our little Cousin Cameron's birthday party he and Drew have the same birthday! He turned 7, Stella played on the swing set, ate cake and watched 6 & 7 year olds play WII.

NEWS FLASH: Hadley went to nursery during the sermon and didn't cry!!! Yes. My Haddie. Yippeee we are making progress. :)

Have a Great Week Everyone!

Cloth Diapers

We recently switched Haddie to cloth diapers and I have really liked the results.

You may be wondering why?

Why?

  • Disposable diapers go straight to land fills and sit there forever. It made me realize that disposable really isn't disposable. They say 500 years but, we really don't know for sure yet. One thing we do know is that there isn't any air in landfills so you can imagine what just sits in them. Here is some info from Mothering Magazine:
" Disposable diapers make up the third largest source of solid waste in landfills, after newspapers and food and beverage containers--a significant fact, considering they are a single product, used by a limited portion of the population.1 It takes upwards of 82,000 tons of plastic and 1.3 million tons of wood pulp, or a quarter-million trees, to manufacture the disposable diapers that cover the bottoms of 90 percent of the babies born in the US."

  • The disposable diaper companies advertise with making your baby feel dry while they are actually wet. Is this really a good thing? Their urine is still there and We(myself included) will just leave the diaper on them until its "heavy" well now its full of their pee, there isn't any air in the diaper and it creates the perfect storm for a nasty diaper rash.
  • The cost of diapers is awful: Even if you buy the store brand pack the lowest I have seen is 5.75 for a week multiply that by 52 weeks and most likely 2 1/2 years....that equals $747.00.
  • Finally, a chemical called sodium polyacrylate it is what makes the diaper super absorbent sometimes you can see this when changing diapers they are like little beads or a clear gel on your baby. This chemical can absorb 100 times it weight in water. Here is the kicker: Sodium polyacrylate is the same substance that was removed from tampons in 1985 because of its link to toxic shock syndrome. There hasn't been a long term study on the effects but maybe in the future.

I have really liked that I am more involved with Haddie's cycle instead of just forgetting about it and letting her diaper get obnoxiously huge for me to notice, reusing diapers over and over again after you wash them is just CRAZY AWESOME I am no longer paying for diapers, and its helping Haddie realize when she is actually wet (obviously for later on in life). :)

I will post later on how.

I just encourage anyone who is interested to look it up!!!

A weekend outside.

This weekend we went to Zilker Park and walked around town lake. Stella had lots of fun and had Andrew going all over the play ground. She kept saying, "Drewey run" , we are pretty sure she thinks that the other children were running from something. :) She loves to run around at Zilker and swing with her sister. Haddie at first wasn't really sure what the swing was for but, she learned what it was and LOVED it. It was fun to see her squeal. The lake was beautiful with downtown in the background. The boost you get from being outside is truely amazing.

This week we are going to start potty training Stella! We are pretty sure she is ready and now its time! I am sure she is excited. :) She already wants her reward stickers for not doing anything. haha She is a nut. Also, I am looking up a weekly activity for us to do outside the home. This week we went to the nature center and saw native wildlife(coyote, owls, hawks) she loved that! There is so much to do here for free!!

Hadley is getting a little personality. Today she started to grunt when she isn't getting her way she grunts and then pauses and grunts some more.

Its my bedtime(10:39) hahah

Goodnight!
